Un viaggio iniziato il 28 febbraio tra le immagini e i racconti della mostra “Lungo la corrente” di Lorenzo Colantoni, ospitata alla Biblioteca Civica di Verona, e passato anche per la riflessione linguistica con la sociolinguista Vera Gheno a Valgatara. Un percorso fatto di incontri, approfondimenti e sguardi sul mondo che ora si prepara a trovare il suo approdo finale.
Sabato 11 aprile, alle ore 17.30, sarà infatti il suggestivo Palazzo Carlotti di Garda a ospitare l’ultimo appuntamento dell’Extra Festival e, insieme, a chiudere ufficialmente l’edizione 2026 del Festival del Giornalismo di Verona.
Al centro dell’incontro, dal titolo “Rohingya, Afghanistan, Medio Oriente: uno sguardo ad Est, oltre i suoi confini”, ci saranno alcune delle aree più complesse e raccontate del panorama internazionale contemporaneo. Un invito a superare narrazioni superficiali e distanti per provare a comprendere davvero cosa accade oltre i nostri confini, tra crisi umanitarie, guerre dimenticate e storie individuali spesso invisibili.
A guidare il pubblico in questo attraversamento saranno due voci autorevoli del giornalismo internazionale: Emanuele Giordana e Barbara Schiavulli. A moderare l’incontro sarà il giornalista Stefano Verzé.
Emanuele Giordana è giornalista e asiatista, cofondatore di “Lettera22”, è presidente dell’associazione “Afgana”. E’ stato docente di Cultura indonesiana all’IsMeo di Milano, direttore di “Ecoradio” (2011) e del mensile ecologista “Terra” (2012). Ha scritto, tra l’altro, “La scommessa indonesiana” e “La sfida indonesiana” (con G. Corradi 2002-2022) “Afghanistan” (2007) “Diario da Kabul”(2010) “Viaggio all’Eden” (2017) e curato diverse collettanee di geopolitica tra cui “Sconfinate” (2018) e “La Grande Illusione” (2019) sulla guerra in Afghanistan. Nel 2021 ha pubblicato con G. Battiston una lunga prefazione al volume “I Talebani”. Nel 2023 ha cofirmato con R. Crocco “La nuova chiamata alle armi” e nel 2025 con M. Morello “Asia criminale”. Nel 2026 ha scritto con G. Battiston “Dai due lati del confine” (Add) sulla questione Rohingya. Collabora con “ilmanifesto”, Ispi, Aspenia e altre testate web, Radio3Rai e la Radio svizzera italiana. Fa parte del direttivo della Scuola di giornalismo della Fondazione Basso di Roma.
Barbara Schiavulli, corrispondente di guerra e scrittrice, segue da oltre ventisette anni i principali fronti caldi del mondo, tra cui Iraq e Afghanistan, Israele e Palestina, Pakistan, Yemen, Sudan, Cile, Haiti e Venezuela. I suoi articoli sono apparsi sui principali quotidiani e settimanali; ha collaborato con radio e televisioni e attualmente lavora con la BBC.
Dirige Radio Bullets, testata giornalistica online dedicata a esteri, diritti umani e inclusività, attraverso la quale racconta il mondo dando voce a chi non ne ha. Vincitrice di numerosi premi nazionali e internazionali – tra cui il Premio Lucchetta, il Premio Antonio Russo, il Premio Maria Grazia Cutuli e il Premio Enzo Baldoni e Megalizzi – ha pubblicato Le farfalle non muoiono in cielo, Guerra e guerra, La guerra dentro, Bulletproof Diaries. Storie di una reporter di guerra e Quando muoio lo dico a Dio. Storie di ordinario estremismo. Nel 2024 è uscito Burqa Queen; nelle prossime settimane sarà pubblicato il nuovo libro Voragini. Viaggia sempre con un trolley rosa e una stilografica.
L’appuntamento, patrocinato dal Comune di Garda e organizzato in collaborazione con l’associazione albergatori di Garda e Costermano del Garda, con il supporto di Elettrotecnica Dall’Ora, rappresenta l’ultimo tassello di un’edizione che ha confermato la crescita e la diffusione territoriale del Festival, capace di portare il giornalismo fuori dai luoghi canonici e dentro le comunità.
Come un sipario che si chiude lentamente dopo settimane di storie, parole e confronto, l’incontro di Garda non sarà solo una conclusione, ma anche una nuova apertura: uno sguardo che resta, rivolto verso ciò che accade oltre, e che chiede di essere ancora interrogato.
